In this chapter we will explore what a role is, discuss the features of a role, and seek to understand the motivation and challenges we face in identifying and using business process-centric roles today. This chapter also provides a summary of the profile of the factors or features needed to flesh out or give specific form to the roles in a business process management (BPM) center of excellence.
